Our gel coat oxidation removal process is designed to safely and effectively remove oxidation and restore the shine of your boat’s gelcoat. We use a variety of techniques, depending on the severity of the oxidation. For mild oxidation, we may use a marine-grade polish and a buffer. For more severe oxidation, we may need to use a dry, damp or wet sanding process followed by polishing. If the oxidation so severe that buffing or wet sanding wont restore the shine we can respray new gelcoat or an Awlgrip paint finish over gelcoat.
Upon completion of any gel coat or paint correction the most important step is the final layer of protection to apply over the surface. We can apply a wax, polymer sealant or ceramic coating to protect your boat’s gelcoat or paint from the elements. We only use high-quality products that are specifically designed for marine use.
There are many benefits to having your boat’s gelcoat oxidation professionally removed. Some of the benefits include:

Our Interior Cleaning & Drying Process:
Boats are humidity magnets. The most important step to begin with, in the process of detailing a boat’s interior is not solely getting it clean but drying it out. Before washing down the interior we remove any gear inside the boat and any removable cushions. We clean interior compartments and cubbies. After a boat interior and compartments has been washed the boat is placed in a heated indoor shop for 24 to 48 hours with all compartments opens and fans are placed over all wet surfaces. We tackle any mold stains with marine-grade mold removers and sanitizers specifically formulated for boat interiors. In conclusion we inspect the boat’s interior to inspect for any remaning wet areas which may need more attention & time to dry then we put all the gear that was taken out of the boat back inside.
Is your beloved boat sporting an unwelcome guest? Whether it barnacles or algae, or that unsightly scum line marring your once-gleaming hull.
Power’s Marine, serving the greater Seattle area and surrounding counties offers expert hull cleaning services designed specifically for removing these stubborn stains.
Forget the frustration of DIY methods. Here’s how we work our magic:
In direct sunlight, typically 1-3 months.
Notes about wax application protection: When a boat’s finish is properly maintained after a wax application is applied, the longer it will offer proper protection. How long a wax application will offer protection is heavily influenced on how much exposure to outdoor elements the boat is subject to.
In direct sunlight, typically 4 to 6 months. The better a finish is maintained after a polymer sealant is applied, the longer it will offer proper protection.
Notes about polymer sealant application protection: When a boat’s finish is properly maintained after a polymer sealant has been applied, the longer it will offer proper protection.
In direct sunlight, typically 1 to 2 years. The better a finish is maintained after a ceramic coating is applied, the longer it will offer proper protection.
Notes about a ceramic coating application protection: When a boat’s finish is properly maintained after a ceramic coating has been applied, the longer it will offer proper protection.
The shine can usually be brought back to a high gloss look with buffing using a heavy compound, but in order to last and not re – appear in a short amount of time proper steps must be performed and the finished worked must be protected with a wax or polymer sealant. Depending on how heavy the oxidation is, in order to effectively remove the oxidation sanding, damp sanding or wet-sanding is initially required followed up by buffing with a rotary buffer with heavy & medium compounds, then machine polishing with a DA and finally applying wax or polymer sealant as protection. If the oxidation is light, it may be sufficient to bypass sanding steps and begin with heavy buffing process. The most important part of the process to avoid future oxidation is to apply a wax, sealant or ceramic coating once the oxidation has been properly and fully removed from the surface and keep properly maintaining the gel coat finish on a regular basis and to perform future boat washing with proper soap which will not stripe away the wax, polymer sealant or ceramic coating.
